CBD Explained

There are two main types of cannabis, hemp and marijuana. Hemp contains more CBD whilst marijuana has more THC.

There are over a hundred various cannabinoids which can be found in the hemp plant. These compounds are also found in the human body. They have the capability to activate cannabinoid receptors that modify neurotransmitters in our brains, known as the endocannabinoid system. This is a system which is responsible for assisting to control homeostasis in the body.

Why is homeostasis important? It helps keep the balance of many different systems, making certain they work together in harmony. Such as hunger, body temperature, heart rate and sleep. In order for the body to keep your heart rate constant, or to control your body temperature, chemicals messages are sent out to the brain. CBD promotes these receptors and helps to increase or reduce the internal processes as required. Everyone has had the experience of getting nervous or stressed out. In these situations our brain launches extra dopamine in order to help soothe us. This is just another example of a system which is controlled by our endocannabinoid system.

THC, what is it?

THC is more prevalent in cannabis than in hemp. It has psychoactive properties, otherwise known as getting high, which impacts the users psyche and changes the cerebral rhythm. THC is unlawful if present at a rate of over 1% in the cannabis flower. For CBD prodcuts the level has to be under 0.2%.
